Luciano Bacheta managed to defend his third place in the championship on the 4.574 km circuit at Hockenheim with two point scoring results. At the only Formula Renault Eurocup weekend on German ground, the Brit saved one point in the first race and made up nine points with a fifth place in the second race. His Interwetten Racing Junior team colleague Sandro Lukovic was eliminated in the first race and came in fifteenth in the second.
„Unfortunateley, I got involved in a crash in the first race and fell back to the rear of the field”, reports Luciano. The 20 year old still managed to fight his way back into the point ratings. “This is Luciano’s strength ever since this season began”, acknowledges team manager Michael Schneider. “He never gives up in situations such as this and therefore achieves important championship points.” Luciano finished the second race in fifth place.
The weekend did not go too well for Sandro Lukovic either. Even at the qualifying, his best time was voided due to exiting the track, followed by the same fate for the second best time for raising the red flag at the end of the qualifying. He was eliminated in the first race after a collision. In the second race, he improved from position 22 into the point ratings, from where he fell back after a crash and had to finish the race as fifteenth.
„A rather tough weekend“, admits team manager Michael Schneider. “We are optimistic though that Luciano will reach the podium once again at Silverstone. After all, that will be his home race.” The seventh race of the season will take place there from 18th to 19th September.
